English Major ePortfolios

To ensure that students have an engaging and rigorous intellectual experience, in 2011 the English Department instituted the ePortfolio, which provides students an online way to communicate with their English faculty advisors, store their written work, and reflect on the learning objectives of the English major.

Students may also personalize ePortfolios--for example, by keeping a list of all of the books they read as a GW student, or by uploading audio and video related to their studies. ePortfolios can be useful to majors who need letters of recommendation in support of applications to graduate programs, jobs, or internships.

Faculty advisors use the ePortfolios not only to guide their advisees, but also to periodically assess the quality of the education the Department is providing.

Students who declare their English majors after January 1, 2011 are required to complete an ePortfolio for graduation. Upon enrolling in the major, the Director of Undergraduate Advising automatically establishes an ePortfolio account for the student, who receives an email from the system administrator with information about how to get started. Students will need to know the name and User ID (for gwu.edu emails) of their advisor to start sharing the ePortfolio.
