The Daniel DeWispelare II Study Abroad Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Daniel DeWispelare and his dedication to study abroad and the languages, including his beloved English. This is a need-based scholarship gifted to GW to allow for greater accessibility to study abroad for all undergraduate GW students.
About Daniel
Daniel DeWispelare (1983-2024), a cherished English professor at George Washington University, taught classes in British romanticism, literary and critical theory and the history of the English language and authored Multilingual Subjects: On Standard English, Its Speakers, and Others in the Long Eighteenth Century.
Compassionate, brilliant and endlessly curious, Daniel was an indispensable part of the community: a globetrotter with endless stories to tell, learned, funny and kind with our students.
