Joshua Benson is a PhD candidate in the Department of English at the George Washington University. His dissertation, “Literary Prophylaxis: Interracial Sexuality and Contamination Fear in the Imperial British Novel,” concerns the ways in which late-Victorian novels characterize interracial sexuality as diseased. Spinning these analyses into an exploration of community formation, the project engages political philosophy, biopolitics, Victorian studies and (post)colonial studies.
Joshua received his BA in Writing, Literature and Publishing from Emerson College and his MA in English from Portland State University. His work recently appeared in the Victorians Institute Journal.
