The Dramatic Literature Capstone Experience
In their senior year, dramatic literature majors are required to complete an internship, independent study, or honors thesis in which they apply their dramaturgical research skills to a theatrical production. This project may take a number of forms, including but not limited to:
- The student serves as an assistant to the staff dramaturg or literary manager of a professional theatre in the Washington area.
- The student serves as production dramaturg for a production in the TRDA mainstage season.
- The student serves as part of the play selection committee for a professional theatre in the Washington area.
A member of the Dramatic Literature Committee must approve the capstone experience and will serve as the faculty advisor to the project, except in cases where another GW faculty member is directly involved with the theatrical production and agrees to serve in this capacity. Subsequent to securing a faculty advisor, the student must obtain approval from the Director of the Dramatic Literature Program and the signature of the chair of either the English or Theatre and Dance department.
